    About John W. Johnson, PhD, MSCP

    Dr. Johnson, Director of Alliance Counseling, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY 19013) specializing in individual, couples and family therapy.

    As a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary’s Graduate School of Psychology, he practices both in Christian and general clinical psychology modalities. With over 30 years of experience in the field, he enjoys working with a broad spectrum of clients. In addition to his doctorate degree, he currently holds 3 Master’s degrees and a Post-Doctoral Masters in Clinical Psychopharmacology. Among his areas of expertise are psychopharmacological education, dream analysis work, and motivational speaking. He has presented at conferences and to general audiences on the topics of psychopharmacology, stress management, and psycho-spiritual integration.

    In addition to being a private practitioner, Dr. Johnson maintains adjunct faculty positions at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in Pasadena, CA, Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA, and Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA. Dr. Johnson also maintains a full time position as a forensically focused psychologist working with mentally ill offenders at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino County where he has served as Chair of the Psychology Department. He also served a term as President on the board for Division V – Psychopharmacology – of the California Psychological Association.

    Dr. Johnson is an interactive therapist who uses Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy as his primary style. His therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address maladaptive thinking patterns for positive life change. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques, such as solution-focused therapy and interpersonal subjectivity theory to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, he works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
